Stop The Greed #saveassagao
Covid-19 unsettled lives and upended livelihoods – However, the real estate sector boomed and property prices soared at a a record pace. Affluent people from city centers moved the green and less densely populated Goa. Unfortunately greed and corruption quickly turned to the village of Assagaon in Goa – known better as the ‘The Valley of Flowers’ is turning into a concrete jungle. Locals and residents of the village watched helplessly, during the pandemic – as forests were razed, traditional heritage homes were replaced by ugly, bare concrete villas with high walls. In Jan 2021, Assagao Heritage Alert – a few locals and residents got together to try and save the 400 year old village Banyan tree in the heart of Assagao. We helped to create communication collaterals, both in English and Konkani as part of the social action campaign urging buyers to make sensible, sustainable, informed choices and not support builders who add to the desecration of Goa’s natural beauty.

Flyers, Posters, Banners, Tent Cards, Car Stickers were distributed to restaurants, hotels and people of Goa in the hope to garner more support to stop the reckless and illegal chopping of trees, hill sides and forests in the valley of Assagao. The Assagao Heritage Alert event with the talented Fado singer Sonia Shirsat was also organised by Edible Archives in Assagao where people expressed their concern and way forward during the event.
